Gypsy jazz (also known as gypsy swing) is a style of jazz music started by Jean "Django" Reinhardt in the 1930s. Acoustic in nature, typical instrumentation includes acoustic guitar and/or rhythm guitar, upright bass, violin, clarinet and percussion. The gypsy jazz sound is characterized by a strong focus on acoustic guitar and violin as the primary solo instruments.
